PA5: The school ensures that state-certified physical education instructors teach all physical education classes and have a student/teacher ratio similar to other classes.

  • State-certified physical education instructors and student teacher ratios will be contingent on availability of certified physical education staff.

  • National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE)

In partnership with CDC-DASH and many collaborators, NASBE has developed research-based, best practice model policy that is based and suggested by the CDC's scientifically rigorous school health guidelines. State-certified physical education instructors and student teacher ratios will be contingent on availability of certified physical education staff

  • NASBE Physical Activity Model

“TEACHING STAFF. Physical education shall be taught by well-prepared specialists who are certified by the state to teach physical education. All physical education teachers shall be adequately prepared and regularly participate in professional development activities to effectively deliver the physical education program. Preparation and professional development activities shall provide basic knowledge of the physical development of children and adolescents combined with skill practice in program-specific activities and other appropriate instructional techniques and strategies designed to promote lifelong habits of physical activity.” xx
