"The following 2013-2014 Official School Calendar was approved by the Board of Education on January 8, 2013. As mandated by the "Reinventing Education Act of 2004," it applies to all schools except those on multi-track schedules and charter schools.
The 2013-2014 calendar will follow a 1-2-1 year round model with a one-week fall break between the first and second quarters, a two-week winter break separating the first and second semesters, and a one-week spring break between the third and fourth quarters.
The 2013-2014 teacher work year runs from July 30, 2013 through May 30, 2014. The student instructional year starts on August 5, 2013 through May 29, 2014. In 2013-2014, we are very pleased that there will no longer be Directed Leave Without Pay days.
To maximize instructional time, the Department of Education since 1991, has defined the earliest date for commencement exercises as "the first weekend preceding the last day of school for students." Therefore, commencement exercises for the Class of 2014 may be scheduled no sooner than Friday, May 23, 2014."
